KOTA BHARU 28 Julai — Presiden Parti Progresif Penduduk (PPP) Datuk M. Kayveas mengesyorkan agar semua parti komponen Barisan Nasional (BN) dibubarkan dan kemudiannya bersatu menubuhkan sebuah parti baru dinamakan Parti BN.
– Bernama

In Tengku Razaleigh’s own words, 3 reasons behind the dismal BN results were:
a) Democracy had been suppressed in Umno. Via requirements such as the nominations quota for senior positions the Party prevented the renewal of talent and leadership . We must restore democracy in UMNO, and begin by restoring power to the grassroots to select their leaders at every level up to the President
b) We had failed to articulate a vision and a set of policies that transcends race. While defending its traditional vision Umno must be the party that sponsors Malay leadershp to win the trust of all Malaysians, a national party that promotes the welfare of all.
c) Too many of our leaders had been arrogant and corrupt. People of all races saw us as being high-handed, out of touch and ill mannered. We must recover our humility, our spirit of service and solidarity with the rakyat and among ourselves.

The ad-hoc committee had the first meeting to discuss the scope for the formation of BN London on 23/06/2008. Representatives from 3 major component parties (UMNO, MCA, MIC) came in their personal capacities to agree on the way forward to pursue the reform agenda.
A follow-up meeting will be held in mid-August to structure the governance process & provide greater clarity on lobbying methodology required.

A few of us in the UK see the 2008 GE results as a golden opportunity to foster positive changes in Malaysia- although most of us are currently independent & non-politically affiliated.
Hence, we have launched ‘Project Dacing‘ to lobby & drive reforms within.
The ST objective to contribute to reforms in UMNO (and thus BN). The Mid-term objective is to propose and challenge the current model of Barisan Nasional. We intend to get this circulated amongst the relevant within BN.
We are in full agreement with the vast majority of the promises made by Pakatan Rakyat, however we differ in opinion on the best execution platform due to our belief in the likelihood of BN retaining power in the next election.
It is better for the country to have plurality in choice by retaining BN as a legitimate and relevant option (rather than automatically defaulting to Pakatan Rakyat). BN has lost both the urban & rural votes. There is a real risk of sinking into irrelevance & obscurity if status quo holds.
We hope we can interest you in the activities that we are planning as a new political platform.
